Senator Ted “Mr. Tubes” Stevens trying dirty tricks on Net Neutrality

Senator Ted StevensIf you believe in true Net Neutrality, it’s time to get on the phones and try to prevent Senator Ted Stevens from calling a vote on his Net Neutrality bill (S.2686) as the Senate goes into recess. Basically, no one is going to be there after Thursday and yet Stevens is going to try and get a cloture vote through so a filibuster can be prevented and the bill can be considered in the lame duck session after November elections before the Senate leaves for the August recess.

Stevens is shooting for a cloture vote on Thursday and has plans to keep everyone in a lame duck session to force a vote on net neutrality after Congress is supposed to be in recess. If you can’t win fair and square, you try the smarmy tactics…please hit the phones.” – FireDogLake

Email or call these swing voters on the committee with your concerns. Remember, be polite but insistent that these senators appear and vote against cloture to assure that Stevens’ bill does not pass:

Blanche Lincoln (D-Arkansas) – Email - Phone: (202) 224-4843

Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) – Email - Phone: (202) 224-6551

Joe Lieberman (D-Connecticut) – Email - Phone: (202) 224-4041

[UPDATE 8-1-2006]

Here are Senator Ron Wyden’s June 28th (D-Oregon) remarks objecting to Stevens’ bill, made on the floor of the senate–for some background.

“Invisible” Apple Discussions staff now truly invisible

As if you could ever find an Apple employee on the Apple Discussions site, Apple is apparently dismantling whatever staff they used to have running their message boards. I’m pretty sure I’ve read posts on Apple Discussions specifically indicating that Apple does not read that board anyway. [via Digg via Apple Insider]

Is the Bush Administration Distorting Intelligence Again?

Larry Johnson, defender of Valerie Plame, counter-terrorism expert and general thorn in the side of the neocons, relays a potentially alarming message from inside the American intelligence establishment. Have we seen this situation before?

…intelligence being produced for the Bush Administration by the Pentagon strongly supports the thesis that Hizballah operations are directly controlled and closely managed from Teheran. My source considers this an exaggerated picture of the real situation. He believes that this assessment contributes to an unhealthy and even dangerous mindset in Washington, leading to potentially serious miscalculations and errors of judgment by President Bush and his closest advisors at this very critical time.

Would the Neocons like Rumsfeld, Cheney, et al really shape intelligence in a way that advances their own perspective on how the Middle East operates?

30 Days “Immigration” Premiere Free on iTunes

30 Days Season TwoFX announced today that the premiere episode, Immigration, from the series 30 Days (created by Morgan Spurlock) is now available for free download from the iTunes Store. In addition to the free episode, there is also a special “making-of” video available for free as well.

If you haven’t watched this series before, I’d highly recommend catching this second season. This initial episode on Immigration is amazing and completely pulls at your heartstrings, no matter which side of the debate you’re on. Plus, the next episode on Wednesday at 10PM is about the outsourcing of jobs to India. They send a guy who lost his job to outsourcing over to India to see if he can get his job back over there. At least the guy can use is real name instead of having to make up an American-sounding one.
If you don’t use iTunes or don’t want to download it, you can catch a repeat airing of the Immigration episode Sunday night (7-30) at Midnight on FX. The series airs Wednesdays at 10PM E/P and 11PM E/P on FX.

Got a Pocket PC with no music? Stream your iTunes with WiFiTunes

WiFiTunesEver since I got my new Cingular 8125 Windows Mobile 5 phone (aka the HTC Wizard), I’ve been a very happy camper but I can’t really imagine loading this thing up with tons of MP3s. Now with the built-in WiFi and a cool piece of software called WiFiTunes (made by Aspecto Software), I can get access to all my shared iTunes music.

Making it work is simple. Just install the software with either the cab or installer that Aspecto provides, launch WiFiTunes and it automatically finds any shared iTunes libraries on your LAN. It even supports shared playlists. Very slick and it sounds great. It uses the RAM in my device so my two-hour DJ mixes don’t really work since they’re so friggin large (125MB+ in most cases), but for regular tracks it works great.

I’ve found one more thing that I really like about my Cingular 8125.

New DJ Mix: “Infectious” mixed by Jason Blum

DeepskyHybridized.org has just posted a mix by Jason Blum, one of the members of Deepsky. Mixed back in March, Blum does a great job in the progression on this one and the track has been burning up my iTunes for the past couple of days. There are lots of chugging bass lines and fun tracks in this one. Some favorites are the mix opener, “Effulgence” by Snake Sedrick and “A Little More Mixed Up Than Usual (Colin C Consoul mix)”.

Tracklist:

  1. Snake Sedrick – Effulgence
  2. Blue Room Project – Forty Nights (Panoptic Mix)
  3. Dousk – Snowcone
  4. Demi – Gearbox (16 bit Lolitas Mix)
  5. Neverdogs, Presslaboys, & David Ruberto – Angel (Presslaboys Mix)
  6. Blendbrank – Muscles (Paranoid Jack Mix)
  7. Hawaii – Pure (Janicki Mix)
  8. Rick Pier O’Neil – Come To Me (RPO part 2)
  9. Opencloud Vs. Seyton – A Little More Mixed Up Than Usual (Colin C Consoul Mix)
  10. Chris Micali – Sentient Soul
  11. Deepsky and Marc Mitchell – Lost In The Moment (Peg City Allstars Mix)

It seems like Hybridized has re-awakened with lots of new mixes getting posted lately, which makes me happy!
