Blog Hater: George W. Bush

Bad Bush
Coining a new ad hominem attack phrase, George W. Bush, lame duck and worst president ever, is now attacking “Moveon.org bloggers”. Here’s the quotation and a link to ThinkProgress.org, where you can watch the video.

When it comes to funding our troops, some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorists like Osama bin Laden and the requests of our commanders on the ground, and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters. [source]

So sad. So pathetic.

And how concerned is Bush about Bin Laden? From March 13th, 2002:

THE PRESIDENT: Deep in my heart I know the man is on the run, if he’s alive at all. Who knows if he’s hiding in some cave or not; we haven’t heard from him in a long time. And the idea of focusing on one person is — really indicates to me people don’t understand the scope of the mission.

Terror is bigger than one person. And he’s just — he’s a person who’s now been marginalized. His network, his host government has been destroyed. He’s the ultimate parasite who found weakness, exploited it, and met his match. He is — as I mentioned in my speech, I do mention the fact that this is a fellow who is willing to commit youngsters to their death and he, himself, tries to hide — if, in fact, he’s hiding at all.

So I don’t know where he is, nor[*]… You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you.

* he almost said, “Nor do I care.” at the end. An element that the White House official transcript removed.

Watching that video, all I could think was, “What a smug, condescending, arrogant idiot.”

Propaganda Watch: Cheney Unleashes His PropagandaBot Army

propagandabots.jpgIn a move designed like the plot of a second-rate spy movie, Dick Cheney’s office has apparently activated its army of propaganda writing “robots” to begin promoting a war with Iran (can you identify which one is Bill Kristol?). I’m not sure whether Cheney activated these writers with a nationwide radio transmission or simply a conference call, but Barnett Rubin is reporting that his sources indicated the propaganda should be starting this week.

They [the source's institution] have “instructions” (yes, that was the word used) from the Office of the Vice-President to roll out a campaign for war with Iran in the week after Labor Day; it will be coordinated with the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, Commentary, Fox, and the usual suspects. It will be heavy sustained assault on the airwaves, designed to knock public sentiment into a position from which a war can be maintained. Evidently they don’t think they’ll ever get majority support for this–they want something like 35-40 percent support, which in their book is “plenty.” [source: Informed Comment Global Affairs]

The psy-ops campaign on Iran has been in full gear from George “Worst. President. Ever.” Bush for all of August and their strategy must be to now have others chime in supporting the administration’s claims. Good luck.

As I’ve noted many times, America should not be willing to trust these clowns in the White House with anything of substance anymore.

Propaganda Watch: Bush Warns of Iranian Holocaust

bushiranianthreat.jpgLike a broken, one-trick pony, the nation’s worst president ever, George W. Bush warned, in a speech today, that Iran’s pursuit of “technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust.”

Like clockwork, with the Petraeus/Crocker “report” looming and his staff leaving his sinking ship of a presidency, Bush and his cronies are cranking up the fear factor. We’ve seen this all before.

While I believe that the United States must act to prevent nuclear proliferation and assure the safety of our nation and others in the world, we’re done listening to you, Mr. Bush. Every strategy you’ve had in pursuing our safety through action in the Middle East has resulted in exactly the opposite result.

It’s getting rather sad how transparent their propaganda has become. Stability over there requires significant political progress in Iraq, not threats against Iran. If he was really serious, he’d actually be working hard instead of taking time off and letting the Iraqis do the same.

‘No End In Sight’: Special Screening in LA July 24th

If you want to watch the trainwreck that is post-war Iraq from the inside, the Center for American Progress is screening the brilliant film No End In Sight on July 24th at 7PM at the Landmark Theater. You need to RSVP on their site. The film will be released on July 27th.

Unrepentant Bush: It’s Fitzgerald’s Fault

Bush

Bush possibly thinking.

As many have noted, “The Worst President Ever” George W. Bush deals with the issues of his former alcoholism every day. His constant theme of blaming others and refusing to take responsibility reflect the fact he has never dealt with the causes of his disease.

Now, faced with a jury of Americans who found his assistant, Scooter Libby, guilty of lying about the White House efforts to expose a clandestine CIA agent, Bush would rather seek our sympathy for pain that special prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, caused his administration.

Despite communicating that his administration would remove anyone connected with the leak of Valerie Plame’s secret identity, he never made any move to penalize anyone involved in the leak. And once Scooter was convicted of lying to investigators, Bush commuted his sentence.

Let’s look at what he said to reporters in his July 12th press conference (take special note of how he skirts around the issue of morality and responsibility):

Q You spoke very soberly and seriously in your statement about how you weighed different legal questions in coming to your decision on that commutation. But one issue that you did not address was the issue of the morality of your most senior advisors leaking the name of a confidential intelligence operator. Now that the case is over — it’s not something you’ve ever spoken to — can you say whether you’re at all disappointed in the behavior of those senior advisors? And have you communicated that disappointment to them in any way?

THE PRESIDENT: Michael, I — first of all, the Scooter Libby decision was, I thought, a fair and balanced decision. Secondly, I haven’t spent a lot of time talking about the testimony that people throughout my administration were forced to give as a result of the special prosecutor. I didn’t ask them during the time and I haven’t asked them since.

I’m aware of the fact that perhaps somebody in the administration did disclose the name of that person, and I’ve often thought about what would have happened had that person come forth and said, I did it. Would we have had this, you know, endless hours of investigation and a lot of money being spent on this matter? But it’s been a tough issue for a lot of people in the White House, and it’s run its course and now we’re going to move on.

Based on the testimony of his own aides and the evidence presented in the case, the Bush Administration led a concerted effort to destroy Ambassador Wilson’s credibility by releasing his wife’s secret identity in the CIA. What does Bush do in response? Nothing. Does he admit that there was any wrongdoing in his administration? No. Does he respect the rule of law? No.

What Bush feels is that the investigation of the leak, which identified the vice president’s strategy to leak Plame’s identity, was tough on a lot of people in the White House. Really? Perhaps it was much tougher on the clandestine contacts who were burned after Plame’s cover was blown?

Mr. Bush, you took an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States. Through your total lack of accountability, by continuing to allow flagrant violations of the law and your disdain for that oath you took to the American people, you have personally placed a black mark in the history of the United States. Your crimes make previous impeachable presidents look saintly. Nixon covered up an office break-in. You have destroyed decades of foreign goodwill. You have allowed felons to operate with impunity within your office. You pardoned the true criminals in your administration by not allowing prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald to work out a deal with Scooter Libby to name the people who really were responsible for the leak of Valerie Plame’s identity. Shame on you, George W. Bush.

Stare Decisis, My Ass

Bush and RobertsIn what will surely be remembered as one of the darkest summers in the history of the Supreme Court, the 5 man wrecking crew John Roberts, Samuel Alito et al have begun to dismantle settled court decisions, some that have been in place for more than 30 years. With today’s gutting of the desegregation plans in Seattle and Kentucky, Brown v. Board of Education is barely alive.

The court earlier this week decided that McCain-Feingold’s prohibition on corporate-funded attack ads run immediately before an election (that often have a clear intent to attack late leaving no time for candidates to respond) is a violation of the a corporation’s right to free speech and at the same time in Morse v. Frederick decided that a student’s comical sign “Bong Hits for Jesus” could be restricted since that speech advocated something against the law. The right to pervert the electoral process must be protected!

I have often noted that George W. Bush will be remembered as the worst president ever, but through his Supreme Court appointments Bush leaves a legacy that will haunt the United States for decades to come.
